Back in 2003, when I was a senior in high school, I remember water polo recruiting to be relatively competative. However, nothing along the lines of soccer, baseball, football, etc. (the 'popular' sports) - this actually provided many outstanding athletes with advantages, as their abilities seemed to shine over most, instead of blending in with the other athletes, as one would with a popular sport. Women in particular had tremendous scholarship potential, as schools all around the country saught out star players for their team and had limited decisions compared to sports such as softball or volleyball. Fall 2011 is right around the corner and that means scouts are out, looking for potential athletes to add to their team. How is the competativeness of the recruiting process today? Water polo has undoubtly grown in the past 7 or 8 years, but are colleges sill offering the numerous scholarships and opportunities that they were in the past?

International recruiting seems difficult - although, it can be done, especially in the sport of water polo. I remember when I was looking into NCAA schools for polo back in 2004: Of the top 10 teams in the nation, over half of them used international players - and of those teams, over half of the team itself was international. Queens College (i think who placed 3rd or 4th that year) was 90% international students from Hungry, Croatia, Poland, etc.
I wish I knew more about the recruiting process besides the fact that NCAA makes you sign up and fill out thousands of forms for registration... total nightmare....
