When I started
i started swimming competitively at age seven when my parents bribed me with a cat. I stopped swimming competitively after my sophomore year in college. My cat also died that year. Four years later, I wonder if I had kept swimming if that cat would still be alive...
How I started
My older brother swam and my parents wanted to me swim. I didn't want to, but I did want a cat. I got a cat, my parents got another swimmer.
Why I love it
I love swimming because I have learned so much from the sport. It taught me confidence, independence, time management, responsibility and team work, among other life lessons. I love the camaraderie that seems to be unique to the sport and the fascination that swimmers have with the water. I love the water. I feel more comfortable in the water than anywhere else. I should have been a water sign.
How I stay motivated
i study dara torres and read books and articles published by doc and james counsilman.
Accomplishments
some state meets, some school records, lots of team leading and positive influence.
